Dead Man at Devil’s Cove, chapter 4, page 128B
This wraps up the first arc! Only took me nineteen years and a month to finish. I’m hoping to have a little essay written about this by the time this post goes live, so look down in the news section for that.
Edit: I clearly didn’t get the essay written! I’ve been catching up on my day job drawing Books of Clash for First Second Books after a real bad bout with depression over the last year and I just didn’t get it done.
Anyway, this is the end of Dead Man at Devil’s Cove, but it’s not the end of Jonny Crossbones! I’ve been writing a second volume, Down Hanover Wash, for quite a while, and I’ve got it almost ready to start drawing. I’ll have something up next Wednesday for that, and I think I’ll be able to start posting some comics within the next month or two.
Congratulations! It has been worth the wait.
An amazing achievement. I hope one day to own a copy on my bookshelf – until then I’ll have to go and start from the beginning.
Wahoo! Looks great! Now for the printed version….
Lovely!
Those cars are terrific!
Congratulations Les, have enjoyed every update along the way. Will happily support a printed version if there’s one in the future. Hope you can take some time to enjoy reaching the finish!
Thanks for 19 years of anticipation.
Congratulations! Looking forward to hearing more.
Congratulations, Les. I think I’ve been following for about 15 of those years and as with everybody else here, I’ve loved the story and the characters – even those dastardly villains.
This site is a true holdover from the days when people’s internet routine involved checking creator’s individual sites instead of creator’s social media. For me, that has been a very comfy reminder of simpler times.
I’m excited for what’s to come from you. Again, congratulations!
I remember someone linking to Johnny Crossbones on a message board forum I frequented way back in like 2004 (?). I read every panel you had posted up to that point, and followed along for another year. But then life got busy for me, I forgot to check regularly.
A couple years ago, I randomly remembered reading a ligne claire comic that featured a guy in skeleton suit, and after a search to uncover the name again, was delighted to see all the updates that had happened in the interim. And now, it’s a true pleasure to be here as you cross the finish line. I don’t think a single one of us could have blamed you if you had decided to abandon the project at some point; it was essentially a labor of love, and you no doubt had bills to pay.
But you managed to work past all setbacks, and it is truly amazing to see, not only for the efforts themselves but for the beautiful work that they produced. Thank you for the gift of sharing it all with us.
What a nice finish to a great story! Congrats! I love all of it, and now that it’s completed I think I’ll have to go on a second archive binge, reading it through from start to finish, just because I’ve always enjoyed it so much.
19 years. Wow! Well, it’s clearly a work of love, and they just need their time to breathe. 🙂 Seriously, even if you take 30 years for the next one, I’ll be there for every page. Johnny Crossbone is one of my all-time favourite comics on the web and elsewhere.
The funny thing is: 2004 still sounds to me as if it was about yesterday. It really isn’t, is it?
What a wild ride! Congratulations! Add my vote to the others hoping for a print version someday. I need to go back and binge read from the beginning.
Congratulations on finishing this incredible book! Great work! An amazing achievement!
Very much looking forward to the printed version! It will sit in a place of honor next to all the Tintin albums, as a worthy successor to that proud tradition.
And just to quibble a bit, I assume all those blank rectangles on Jupiter’s garage are going to be filled in with fun signage at some point?
